The TEDxTohokuUniversity 2018 conference aims to bring bright minded students, academic staff, alumni and people of Sendai together indulge in the possibility within Tohoku’s future. This year’s theme “Blueprints”, is open to interpretation. For some, it is the plan of a brighter future while for others it is a structured sense of how to improve the community, oneself, or the ever expanding world of technology. In the upcoming conference we will focus on three main encompassing spheres: community, personal lifestyle, and technology.
Through connecting with a wide range of people within the community we will instigate change. Our team believes that TEDxTohokuUniversity 2018 will not only stretch your imagination and allow for new ideas to foster but we also hope it will assist you in the process of drawing blueprints of your own.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT ?

DOOR OPENS: 10:45
SESSION 1: 11:00 - 12:30
What does the future hold for our society? Many societies these days are three dimensional: they have been impacted by other cultures, they are connected by other cultures, they are evolving faster everyday. Is Japan one of these societies? More importantly, is Tohoku one of these societies? In this session you will hear talks from a community builder, a community promoter, and a sustainable community advocate. Through these talks, you will think about Tohoku as a community, its strong points, its weak points, and how an understanding of both characteristics will prepare the Tohoku society to overcome current, and currently unseen obstacles.
COFFEE + SPEAKERS Q&A: 14:50 - 15:50
SESSION 3: 15:50 - 17:40
Science and Technology blueprints
Does technology affect your life? How will it affect your future? This session doesn't necessarily aim at displaying new technologies, but describing how technology (and the science it is based upon) will affect our life in the years to come. These talks will cover topics such as approaching science from backgrounds other than your own, ways that memory techniques can improve our ability to learn, and how science affects our view of the world.
SPEAKERS Q&A: 17:40 - 18:00
RECEPTION: 18:00 - 19:30
LUNCH + SPEAKERS Q&A: 12:30 - 13:50
SESSION 2: 13:50 - 14:50
A blueprint does not necessarily have to be a tangible thing. One of the most important things in life is life itself, and how to overcome its obstacles. In this session you will hear talks about how to rewrite your personal blueprint, how to write a blueprint to overcome diversity and achieve your goals. These talks will not simply tell you to "just do it," but will tell you what it takes.
